Year 7 Residential to France

By Madame Christelle Savary, Head of MFL
The Year 7 trip to Normandy was an exciting and enriching experience filled with unforgettable moments, despite the occasional drizzle. Over the course of four days, students immersed themselves in French culture, history, and adventure, making memories that will last a lifetime.
The trip began with a visit to a local French school, where students enjoyed a lively game of handball, followed by a fun โ€œspeed introducingโ€ session โ€” a fast-paced language exchange that allowed them to chat with many French pupils.
Lunch was served in the French canteen, and everyone agreed it was delicious! In the afternoon, they explored the picturesque town of Pont-Audemer, known as the โ€œNormandy Veniceโ€ for its charming canals. The day ended with a climb to the dome of the stunning Basilica of Lisieux, where the views both inside and out were absolutely breathtaking.
Back at the accommodation, students rounded off the evening with sports and table football.
Day three took the group to Bayeux, starting with an action-packed visit to Bayeux Aventure park, where they tackled treetop challenges and other outdoor activities. Later, they visited the famous Bayeux Tapestry and soaked up its fascinating history.
The adventure continued in Falaise, where they explored William the Conquerorโ€™s castle using interactive iPads to enhance their learning. Rain in the evening didnโ€™t dampen spirits โ€” instead, they enjoyed a cosy night of board games.
On the final day, the group visited the colourful market in Honfleur, where they could browse local products and soak in the atmosphere. The trip concluded with a stop at La Mora, a fascinating shipbuilding project aiming to reconstruct William the Conquerorโ€™s ship. Teachers noted significant progress since last year โ€” the shipโ€™s shape is now clearly visible!
All in all, the Normandy trip was a fantastic mix of learning, fun, and cultural discovery. Year 7 returned tired but happy, with stories to share and new friendships formed.
