VE Day 80 Commemorations

To mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, Ipswich High School united in remembrance with a series of pupil-led commemorations. The Union Flag will fly proudly over Woolverstone Hall for the week, a striking symbol of respect and gratitude. Assemblies across the school were led by pupils, who shared powerful reflections on the meaning of VE Day and the sacrifices made during the Second World War.
Screens throughout the school displayed a digital memory wall, created by students and parents to honour stories of courage, resilience, and peace.
A highlight of the day was the moving performance of The World Fell Off Its Axisโa contemporary dance choreographed and performed by pupils, capturing the emotional impact of wartime upheaval and the hope of peace. Every pupil from KS2 upwards received a VE Day 80 commemorative badge, proudly worn to show their respect. A themed lunch added to the occasion, giving the school community time to gather and reflect. Those near The Dairy House were even treated to the incredible sight of a VE Day flypast, a poignant and unforgettable moment in a day full of learning, remembrance, and unity.
The Prep School marked VE Day with a thoughtful and inspiring assembly led by Mr Speakman and members of the Senior School History Society. The pupils learned about the importance of Victory in Europe Day and reflected on the bravery and sacrifices of those who lived through the Second World War. In Year 6, the celebrations continued with a creative and collaborative activity following the assembly. Pupils designed their own โpeace bricksโ, each one representing their hopes for a more united and peaceful world. These bricks were then added to a collective peace wall, symbolising the strength of community and the value of working together.
