The People Behind Ipswich High School – Mrs Sarah Smith

At Ipswich High School, each week we will focus on celebrating one member of our community. This initiative will highlight the diverse contributions of both teaching and support staff, offering students, parents and colleagues a deeper appreciation for the people who make the school flourish. This week, we learn more about Mrs Sarah Smith who is a Chemistry Teacher at the school.

3 years.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WORKING AT IHS?
I am always in awe of the stunning grounds and surroundings. I also have some great colleagues who I love working with.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM WORKING AT IHS?
My favourite memory is getting all the Year 7 pupils out of bed whilst on their PGL residential trip to see the northern lights. Explaining how they are formed with them just behind me was unreal.
TELL US ABOUT A PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS STORY THAT YOU’RE PROUD OF.
I have taught and worked with so many students and seeing their hard work and dedication pay off will always make me feel proud.
Recently, it has been especially rewarding with my A Level students – to see all their effort lead to acceptance at their first choice of Universities is fantastic.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of school, I run with my local club. I also have a very young family which keeps me busy!
My father still works on our family’s horticultural nursery so I always love going back and putting my wellies on and helping him.
WHAT IS A DREAM THAT YOU WANT TO MAKE COME TRUE ONE DAY?
I want to see my boys grow up happy.
