Super Sunday

Last weekend, our school hosted the annual Super Sunday of Sport, an inspiring outreach event that brought together local clubs and families for a day of fun, competition, and community spirit. Thankfully, the high winds subsided just in time, giving way to beautiful weather that perfectly showcased our wonderful school grounds.

Over 250 parents and participants joined us on site to take part in a range of festival competitions, including rugby, hockey, and a Pony Club triathlon. The atmosphere was lively and full of enthusiasm, with parents and performers alike enjoying both the sporting opportunities and the hospitality vans that kept everyone refreshed throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes to our dedicated PE staff, who generously gave up their time to organise and run the events. Their hard work and energy ensured that Super Sunday of Sport was not only a celebration of athleticism but also a shining example of our school’s ethos of teamwork, community, and excellence.
Pony Club Triathlon Highlights
Despite the weather, the triathlon—run in partnership with Essex and Suffolk Pony Club—welcomed over 50 competitors across four age categories, each completing three challenging phases: shooting or throwing, running, and swimming. 13 pupils from Ipswich High School took part in the event ranging from the Beanie Boys through to the Junior boys and girls event.
• Beanie Boys (U8s): Theodore and Sebastian impressed with strong performances, placing 4th and 5th respectively after completing a beanbag throw, 500m run, and 2-minute swim.
• Tadpoles (U9s): Bastian and Henry F stepped up with confidence. Bastian secured 3rd place and claimed the title of fastest runner, while Henry finished a close 4th.
• Minis (U11s): Percy placed 5th in the boys’ section. In the girls’ competition, Darcey’s lightning-fast run earned her 1st place, while Freya followed in 2nd, also winning Best Shoot and Best Swim, Betsy was 4th and Sienna 6th.
• Juniors (U14s): Monty dominated the boys’ section, winning overall and sweeping Best Shoot, Swim, and Run. In the girls’ section, Molly took 1st place with Best Shoot, Jemma was 4th with Best Swim, and Etta finished 7th.
The event provided a fantastic alternative to the ISA Triathlon, which IHS looks forward to hosting next summer. Pupils showed incredible grit and enthusiasm throughout, with many achieving personal bests and podium finishes.
A huge thank you goes to Anita Steel. who organised the whole event. and to Mrs Stewart and Miss Wooltorton for helping to time and record results.
