Sixth Form Financial Education Afternoon

By Mrs Sarah Williamson,

Head of Business Studies & Economics

Crypto, gold and pensions! Sixth Form students were invited to an afternoon of financial education in the Sixth Form centre.

Year 12s and 13s were invited to meet with Tom, a Senior Investment Manager at Kilik&Co Financial Services. They learnt about the impact of compound interest on savings, pensions, saving to buy a house and discussed crypto currency vs gold as an investment opportunity. The students were particularly interested to see the compound interest charts and the difference that saving little and often can make in the long term. One quote which stuck with our students was that โ€œthe best time to start saving was yesterday, the next best time is nowโ€.

Tom explained that it was important that financial advice comes form a reputable source and warned that there are some โ€˜influencersโ€™ who are unregulated but give advice online. Any students wishing to know more about their finances should speak to Mrs Williamson (Head of Business and Economics) who will be able to share some useful websites, articles and podcasts.
