Sharing expertise in Mauritius

Mrs Claire Chandler Mears, Head of Religious Studies and Head of House at Ipswich High School, recently returned from an exciting and enriching professional experience in Mauritius, where she was invited to deliver bespoke training on behalf of Cambridge International.
As a principal examiner and author for the O Level Hinduism courseโ€”predominantly taken in Mauritiusโ€”Mrs Chandler Mears played a central role in revising the syllabus for first examination in 2026. Following this work, the Mauritian Examination Syndicate, under the Ministry of Education, requested face-to-face training for local teachers. Claire was contracted to design and deliver the two-day programme, which focused on understanding the differences between the old and new syllabuses, assessment objectives, and practical teaching and learning strategies.
Using her classroom experience at Ipswich High School, Mrs Chandler Mears brought valuable insights into assessment and planning, offering engaging activities and examples to a group of 50 Hinduism teachers. Feedback from the teachers was overwhelmingly positive, and in a touching gesture of thanks, she was presented with a gift and a collection of Hinduism books.
Beyond the classroom, Claire also had the chance to experience the vibrant culture of Mauritius. She attended a beachfront celebration marking the 50th anniversary of a Hindu sageโ€™s visit to the island, explored the sacred pilgrimage site of Grand Bassin, and even encountered wild monkeys and giant tortoises during her sightseeing.
It was a truly special opportunity to support international education, share expertise, and learn from a passionate community of educatorsโ€”all while representing Ipswich High School on the global stage.
