Remembrance Day

The entire IHS community came together to mark Remembrance Day. The Senior School assembly was followed by all pupils and staff gathering solemnly outside Woolverstone Hall to honour the sacrifices made by countless individuals during times of war and conflict.
The assembly was led by Year 9 students from the History Society. Our Head of Sixth Form (academic) Mrs Williamson reflected on the meaning of Remembrance, describing it as a moment for the nation to pause and acknowledge those still affected by conflict. She shared a photograph taken on Remembrance Sunday in 2011 at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, where she was deployed with the Army Air Corps.
Mrs Williamson noted that Remembrance gives even the most stoic individuals space to express grief and she praised the History Society for showing how literature and poetry help us articulate deep emotion and make sense of our experiences. A moving vocal performance by Sam added a memorable and heartfelt moment to the occasion.ย Pupils were then escorted to Woolverstone Hall and assembled for the two-minute silence.
Mr Browning read The Exhortation and Georgia marked the solemnity of the moment by sounding The Last Post leading into the two-minute silence at 11.00 am.
The service concluded with Georgia playing The Rouse followed by Mr Browning reading The Kohima Epitaph. The Heads of School then laid a wreath to mark the end of the ceremony.
