National Pistol Shooting Finals

Following the qualification success of our Pistol Shooting Teams at last years’ regional final, 13 shooters from Years 7 to 13 set off for the National Pistol Championship in Cannock. Pre event training took place on Monday evening enabling the pupils to experience the electronic targets and take in the surroundings for the finals on Tuesday. Once the training was complete, we headed to a local hotel for a team dinner and overnight stay.
The Junior pupils were on first, Molly, Rebecca and Freya, followed by Harry, Willow and Darcey. As always, the standard of shooting was incredibly high and Molly was tied in 8th place. In the event of a tie, the athlete with the greatest number of inner 10’s will gain the highest placing and we were delighted that Molly qualified for the final. More great shooting saw her move into 7th place in the final. The Junior Team of Molly, Rebecca and Freya were silver medal winners, just 9 points behind first; and the team of Harry, Willow and Darcey placed 9th.
The Intermediates Emilia, Anna, Martha and Jemma shot next. Emilia placed 18th and then, incredibly, Martha, Jemma and Anna, all scored exactly the same, placing consecutively 38, 39 & 40th! The school team of Emilia, Martha and Anna won a bronze medal. Finally, late in the afternoon, the Senior team took to the range. Georgina placed 19th, Tarek 50th and Lorenzo 54th with the team placing 7th.
The Youth Team section saw the Shooting Shrimps! (Molly, Rebecca and Freya) place 8th and Pink Pony Club (Georgina, Emilia and Jemma) place 11th out of 16 teams.
British Shooting are developing a new Youth Competition event and selected many IHS pupils to take part in their consultation discussions throughout the day. We look forward to the new competition which we are sure will be supported by our pupils.
We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part and represented Ipswich High School. We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents who supported the pupils at the national finals, and to Mrs Spaul who enables weekly training sessions at the school.
