Modern Foreign Languages Week

The school came alive with excitement for Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Week, a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and cultural discovery. Year 7 students kicked things off with a lively scavenger hunt using French and Spanish clues, while Year 8 impressed everyone with their clever, language-themed photos in the Photomania challenge. Year 9 tackled an MFL Escape Room, solving tricky linguistic puzzles, and Years 10 to 12 filled classrooms with music as they sang popular French and Spanish songs.
The highlight of the week was when our EAL students became teachers, enthusiastically sharing their own languages with keen learners from different year groups โ a wonderful celebration of our schoolโs diversity. The Orwell Kitchen joined in the fun, serving European-inspired dishes with changing daily themes, while staff took part in a hilarious tongue twister challenge. Their videos are being compiled into a TikTok-style montage that will be shared soon!
Form times featured quizzes and mini challenges to test cultural knowledge, and congratulations went to Thomas C (Year 8), for designing the winning MFL Week 2025 logo and to Charlotte K (Year 7), for winning the cake decorating contest. The weekโs winning quote, โOne language sets you in the corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way,โ perfectly captured the spirit of the event โ a joyful celebration of language learning and cultural appreciation.
