Matilda Jr Takes Centre Stage at the Hayworth Theatre

Matilda Jr – A wonderful Celebration of Talent at Ipswich High School

Ipswich High School Musical Theatre Academy with Cre8 Theatre Productions recently staged a fantastic production of Matilda Jr. at the end of summer term, in the purpose-built theatre at Woolverstone Hall, brought to life with energy, creativity and outstanding performances. The cast captured both the humour and heart of Roald Dahl’s beloved story with confidence and enthusiasm.

The principal cast delivered memorable performances, while the ensemble impressed with their strong vocals, polished choreography and infectious energy. Every performer played an important role in creating a vibrant and engaging production.

Creative staging, colourful costumes and effective lighting enhanced the storytelling, while the technical team ensured the production ran seamlessly. Tim Minchin’s memorable score was performed with confidence, showcasing the cast’s talent and teamwork throughout.

Reviewed by Catherine for NODA, the production was praised for its confidence, energy and impressive standard of performance, and the cast are awaiting to find out if they have been shortlisted for prestigious NODA awards. The cast, made up of Prep and Senior School pupils from Ipswich High School, had been rehearsing since January and clearly worked extremely hard to bring this much-loved musical to life.

The review described Matilda as being played with “an excellent, confident performance and impressive musical numbers”, while the whole cast and ensemble were praised for their “remarkable energy and enthusiasm”.

Congratulations to everyone involved – performers, staff, Dan Moore and the Cre8 Theatre team, and the backstage team – for delivering an entertaining and inspiring production that was enjoyed by the entire school community.
