Year 10 to Year 13 Sports Celebration Dinner

Last week, the P.E. Department hosted the Year 10 to Year 13 Sports Celebration Dinner. The guest speaker was Andy Halliday, former England and Great Britain Hockey Team Manager, including during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Andy spoke about perseverance, overcoming defeat, and the importance of mental wellbeing in sport. He encouraged pupils to always speak openly with teammates and coaches following setbacks
or difficult periods.
The Sixth Form Sports Captains, Hattie and Adam, also spoke brilliantly, sharing a round up of their sports, results and highlights of the season. They were fantastic ambassadors for both their sport and the school.

Fulcher Tennis – Alev W :

Outside of school, Alev has competed in approximately 40 tournaments over the past year, within her own age group but increasingly in U18 and Open Women’s events. She has also competed at
Tennis Europe tournaments and at the Grade 1 National Finals. Since Year 9, she has been working with a new coach, ex-ATP player Myles Orton, who has coached the 2023 Junior Wimbledon
champion. Through this connection, she has also had the opportunity to work with Nick Cavaday, a former coach of Emma Raducanu.
Her achievements over the last 12 months: 14 tournament wins, alongside a further 10 semi-finals.
As a result, she is now ranked just outside the top 100 in the UK

International Achievements:

Sophia : She is now competing as an Elite gymnast at FIG level (International Federation of Gymnastics), the highest internationally recognised level of competition. Her recent successes
highlight just how far she has come. British Team Champion 2025, Regional FIG Champion, Team Champion and Individual Champion, and Regional Classic Challenge Champion. She has also
earned a silver medal at the British Classic Challenge, a bronze on floor, and a top-five finish at the FIG Open. At national level, she placed 14th in England on Beam and achieved a strong result at
the British Championships, placing above Olympian Becky Downie!

Matilda : Matilda’s journey in shooting began through Pony Club, and since joining Ipswich High in year 7 she has represented the school at the British Shooting Regional rounds and National Finals every single year – a remarkable record of consistency and commitment. Her greatest achievement this year was her selection to represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships in Bulgaria. Against Europe’s best, she qualified for the second round of the demanding ‘hit or miss’ competition, finishing 11th, and her trio team also placed 11th overall. Even more impressively, 2026 marked the first year that Junior athletes competed at these European Championships. As a result, Matilda now holds the British record for Under-18 individual and solo performances at the event – a historic achievement
