DofE Experience Day

Year 9 took part in the school’s first DofE experience day. We decided on this approach because I know it is not suitable for everyone. However, it also makes the unsure pupils do something different. The experience day gave everyone an insight into essential map reading, first aid, camping routines, and a chance to do some team bonding exercises.
The year group was split into 3 groups, and they were rotated through the 3 stands. Go Explore, who help run our expeditions, hosted a fantastic day. They asked me to thank the pupils for their active and attentive participation, which was a key factor in the day’s success.
At the end of the day, I asked the students how many of them had been unsure about participating in DofE beforehand? 17 students raised their hands. I then asked them to leave their hands up if they were now interested. All 17 students kept their hands up. I then asked the whole year group to raise their hands if they were interested in taking part. Over 60 out of 66 students raised their hands, expressing their desire to participate, which is a clear indication of the growing popularity of the DofE program within our school.
