High School Musical

Over a hundred pupils, cast and crew, took over the Hayworth Theatre last week for an outstanding production of Disney’s ‘High School Musical’. Pupils from years 7-13 filled the stage, the wings and the technical areas wowing audiences with a week of incredible performances.
‘High School Musical’ follows Troy (a ‘Jock’) and Gabriella (a ‘Brainiac’) as they break out of their cliques and audition for the school production, driving a change within their school as others feel free to share their hidden passions and overturn the established status quo. It’s a love story with a powerful message about working together and following our dreams…and not feeling trapped within a fixed group.

It is a real privilege to be able to work with a group of young performers and technicians on a full-scale musical theatre production. It is one of the most vocational experiences that pupils will face, working on a challenging creative project over an extended period (around 6 months) and fulfilling their role as part of a large team. Along the way there were many challenges, and a huge amount to learn, but the final product made all the hard work worthwhile, and displayed Ipswich High School at its very best.
We are very proud to share work that shows the ‘Excellence in Performing Arts’ that has been developed over many years at the school, but we are also committed to an inclusive approach. Everyone who auditioned was able to take part in the production, with our experienced, talented and highly professional principals working alongside some who were appearing on stage for the very first time in a full-scale musical theatre production.
We are incredibly proud of the pupils involved for their incredible achievements. We are also very grateful to their parents for the support they give throughout the rehearsal process and performance week.
