Lilly’s Work Experience at Pineapple Dance Studios

Year 10 pupil Lilly Harris enjoyed an unforgettable work experience placement at Pineapple Dance Studios last week, where one of the highlights was meeting the studio’s founder, Debbie Moore.

Lilly met Debbie on both days of her placement and had the opportunity to hear first-hand about how Pineapple Dance Studios was created, as well as learning more about the history of the building before it became the internationally recognised dance studio it is today.

She was also given a full tour of the studios and headquarters, including a visit to Debbie Moore’s office, where she saw Tina Turner’s iconic ‘Proud Mary’ dress and was able to take photographs with it.

During her two-day placement, Lilly was supported by Danka Blais, Personal Assistant and Core Operational Coordinator, and helped to chaperone a number of workshops. Her responsibilities included registering dancers, supporting participants throughout the day and helping with any questions or concerns.

Each morning, Lilly met with the other chaperones to discuss the day ahead. Once the workshops were underway, she also helped organise tote bags and leaflets that were given to dancers taking part in the classes, as well as supervising breaks and helping to ensure everyone was well looked after.

The experience also gave Lilly a valuable insight into the different ways professional dance teachers choreograph, communicate and teach.

Reflecting on her placement, Lilly said:

“It was such an amazing experience. Watching how so many choreographers all have their own teaching styles was a real highlight. I will definitely be using what I learnt to help support some of our younger Dance Scholar pupils, and it will also be hugely beneficial for my GCSE Dance.”As part of their Year 10 work experience programme, pupils are asked to complete five days of work experience during the summer break. These can be spent with one organisation or split across a number of different placements.Lilly completed two days at Pineapple Dance Studios before spending a further three days gaining experience with the IHS Marketing Department.
A fantastic experience for Lilly and a wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into the professional dance industry.
