Two Ipswich High School Hockey Stars Selected for UK Lions Squad
Ipswich High School is delighted to celebrate the success of Annabel and Lara, who have both been selected for the UK Lions Hockey squad following their regional performances.
The girls are now heading to UK Lions Camp, joining a squad of just 36 players selected from across the UK. To have two pupils from Ipswich High School included in such a competitive national squad is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the high level of hockey coaching and development at the School.
UK Lions brings together talented young hockey players from across the country, giving them the opportunity to train and compete at a high level while continuing their development within the sport.
There is further exciting news for Annabel, who was also identified while competing at the Talent Academy National Tournament and has subsequently been invited to attend England Hockey U16 trials in September.
The invitation is particularly significant as Annabel is only just moving into the U15 age group, potentially giving her two years within this age bracket to continue developing and competing for further opportunities.
A special thank you must also go to Head of PE, Mrs Wheelhouse, whose coaching and commitment to hockey at Ipswich High School has helped create an environment in which young players can thrive. Mrs Wheelhouse brings considerable playing experience to her coaching and has herself just returned from representing England Hockey team at the Masters World Cup, where the team finished an impressive third place overall.
