VE Day 80 Concert Celebration

Year 8 pupil Elizabeth H received a ticket for the VE Day 80 national commemorations at Horse Guards Parade, thanks to her dedicated work as a St John Ambulance cadet. An enthusiastic and committed young volunteer, Elizabeth has already given her time to support major local events, including the Ipswich Half Marathon, where she was part of the first aid response team. Her involvement in the VE Day 80 celebrations was a fitting recognition of her service and passion for helping others.

The concert was an unforgettable evening, filled with emotion and reflection. Elizabeth was deeply moved by the powerful stories shared by veterans and evacuees. One of the most poignant moments came when the King read from the wartime diary of Queen Elizabeth II, recalling how the-then Princess Elizabeth had walked unnoticed through the streets on VE Day before joining a conga on her way home and singing into the early hours. Dancing under the moonlight at Horse Guards Parade, surrounded by 12,000 others united in remembrance, created a truly magical atmosphere. It is an experience Elizabeth will carry with her for a lifetime.
