The People Behind Ipswich High School – Mrs Wendy Offord


At Ipswich High School, each week we will focus on celebrating one member of our community. This initiative will highlight the diverse contributions of both teaching and support staff, offering students, parents and colleagues a deeper appreciation for the people who make the school flourish. This week, we learn more about Mrs Wendy Offord, who is our Safeguarding Manager & Head of Careers (LRC) at Ipswich High School.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT IHS?
I was employed in Summer 2014, so I am now in my 11th year at IHS.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN THE IHS COMMUNITY?
I have family and friends who are alumni and thoroughly enjoyed their time here. With a close connection to the school from childhood, I was keen to be a part of the IHS community as an employee, and to help to positively contribute to its continued success.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WORKING AT IHS?
The open, welcoming, and inclusive community as a whole and the support for staff to progress. Our polite and ambitious pupils. As my role is whole school it is rewarding to meet and work with pupils across all year groups.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM WORKING AT IHS?
Watching a School Panto which was written by a student whom I had supported for many years – a very proud moment.
TELL US ABOUT A PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS STORY THAT YOU’RE PROUD OF.
Leading on successful Careers and Literacy projects and supporting the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and students.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as music and spending time in the countryside. I also enjoy exercising for my wellbeing by hybrid training such as weight training, running, cycling, swimming, walking, hiking; I take part/compete in and volunteer at some hybrid races.
I am also a This Girl Can Suffolk Ambassador, encouraging females to be more active and an active member of a global community of females involved in Hybrid Sports.
WHAT IS A DREAM THAT YOU WANT TO MAKE COME TRUE ONE DAY?
For all our pupils to be happy and successful in their careers.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AT IHS?
Developing my role as Safeguarding Manager, to greater support our pupils and students to thrive and become confident and successful young people.

You know more than you think you do.
YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL:
Religious Studies as it encouraged me to explore the deeper meaning of beliefs, communities, and places.
WHAT TYPE OF BOOKS/MOVIES DO YOU ENJOY?
Verse novels, graphic novels, audiobooks, podcasts, romantic comedy films and, documentaries.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LUNCH AT IHS?
Chickpea and spinach curry.
