Year 6 visit the Great War Huts

On Friday 22nd November, Year 6 had the pleasure of visiting the Great War Huts, a ground-breaking First World War museum in Hawstead, near Bury St. Edmunds. Hosted in an original Recreation Hut from Ipswich, it gave a superb opportunity to learn about key historical events through immersive experiences.

All children donned a soldiers’ uniform, held an original rifle and ran around the trenches. Our host held a wealth of knowledge and shared thought-provoking information about the personal, military, and social aspects of the conflict at an age-appropriate level. We even got to fire a catapult to simulate what would have happened in the trenches in the First World War.
