Iceland Rocks!

Senior School Trip to Iceland
ICELAND ROCKS!
By Georgina C and Evie K.
Year 10 โ Year 13 Geography Trip to Iceland.
17th โ 21st October 2024.
Day 1
We met our driver who took us to the new lava in the Grindavik area which had covered roads in the south of Iceland and was an amazing photo opportunity. We then went on to FlyOver Iceland, an
incredible 4D ride experience, and visited a lava tunnel before heading back to the hotel for dinner, some geothermal swimming in the pool, and sleep!
Day 2
The next morning, the first visit was to the Hvammsvik hot springs. Some students (and teachers!) were brave enough to dip into the sea, even with the October temperatures! The next stop was Pingvellir,
the place where the Eurasian and North American plate meet, and also the location of Europeโs oldest democratic parliament. Back at the hotel, we had dinner and a highly competitive game of โGeography Olympicsโ!
Day 3
This was a busy but exciting day visiting a Lava exhibition, cinema and 2 waterfalls followed by a hike to the Solheimajokull glacier! This was one of the most memorable parts of the trip! After a full day, it was back to the hotel for a fish and chip supper and a quick swim.
Day 4
The first stop of the day was the Hellshedoi power station, where we learnt about how geothermal energy was harnessed! After some Icelandic ice cream, we headed to the Lava Show where we felt the heat of real lava created in a furnace and cooled in front of our eyes, followed by a visit to the capital city Reykjavik. That evening, we were getting ready to sleep when to our surprise the northern lights appeared! We had time to rush outside, still in pyjamas, and see the swirling green sky which was an amazing way to end our visit to Iceland.
Day 5
Our final day! Overall, the whole trip was an incredible experience and we all came away feeling like we had truly seen a country like no other. Thank you to Mr Collishaw, Mr Smith, Miss Wooltorton, and Ms Richards for taking us โ we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
