Colchester Castle

Year 4 trip to Colchester Castle

On Tuesday 5th November, the pupils in Year 4 embarked on an exciting and educational trip to Colchester Castle.
This trip provided the children with the opportunity to explore the rich history of their local area and discover more about life in Roman Britain. The children had the chance to explore the castleโ€™s interior, which is home to a museum filled with incredible artifacts.
They saw Roman coins, pottery, and tools, along with weapons and armour. The children were particularly fascinated by visiting the vaults beneath theย castle to hear all about Boudiccaโ€™s rebellion. One of the highlights of the trip was the interactive workshops and the โ€˜Roman Trailโ€™. The students had the opportunity to handle replica Roman objects, such as shields and helmets, and try on some traditional Roman clothes. There was also the opportunity to build Celtic and Roman houses. These activities all gave the children greater insight as to what life was truly like during the Roman times.
Throughout the day, the children gained a deeper understanding of the Roman era, as well as the importance of Colchester as one of the oldest towns in Britain. They were able to connect what they had learned in the classroom with the history they saw firsthand at the castle. The trip also reinforced valuable lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and curiosity, as the students worked together to solve puzzles and engage with the exhibits.
