Year 3 visit Frugalpac Headquarters in Ipswich

Our Year 3 pupils were thrilled with their educational trip to the innovative Frugalpac headquarters in Ipswich, who produce the paper Frugal Bottle.

Frugalpac, a pioneering sustainable packaging company, opened its doors to school children for the first time, providing our pupils with a unique opportunity to delve into the world of eco-friendly packaging innovation firsthand.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, Frugalpac, which is SME of the Year at the UK Green Business Awards, has been at the forefront of sustainable packaging solutions since its inception.

The children learned about the companyโ€™s commitment to helping the global environment and how Frugalpac manufacture its products using a circular economy approach with 94% recycled paperboard, thus avoiding the need for cutting down trees.

The itinerary included an interactive design workshop where students designed their own bottles and an engaging presentation from CEO Malcolm Waugh about problem-solving with an environmental consciousness.

The pupils also had a guided tour of the factory with Frugalpacโ€™s Josh Welsford where they witnessed the production process of the environmentally friendly paper Frugal Bottle, which has a carbon footprint 84% lower than a glass bottle.
Mr Vincent Steensma, our Year 3 teacher, expressed his enthusiasm for the trip: โ€œOur students were eager to explore the fascinating world of sustainable packaging and witness firsthand how innovative solutions can make a positive impact on the environment. We are grateful to Frugalpac for opening their doors to us and providing this invaluable learning opportunity.โ€

Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh added: โ€œIt was a great pleasure to welcome the pupils to our factory. They clearly have a great commitment to the environment and created some amazing designs for our bottles too.โ€

Since launching in 2020, more than 35 drinks brands are now using the Frugal Bottle in 25 countries, including France, Spain, the UK, Italy, Scandinavia, Japan, the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

As well as producing the Frugal Bottles, Frugalapc also make the machines that produce them and have already exported two to the US and Canada, and have a letter of intent to sell another to Australia.
