The Royal Navy visit IHS

Written By Annabel and Freya, Year 6

Students at Ipswich High School had a thrilling visit from the Royal Navy, where they learned teamwork, communication, and engineering skills by building and dismantling 6-foot towers.

When the Royal Navy visited, we built a tower with a team of around 5 or 6. It didnโ€™t matter how you built it didnโ€™t matter as long as you had the wheels on the top. We used lots of skills and worked as a team and how to build a tower over 6ft tall. We learnt what the Royal Navy does โ€“ we felt liked they were the protectors of the sea, but they actually check ships for illegal drugs. It was a fun because once we had built the tower, we also go to destroy it. Every team built their tower successfully, none of them fell down.ย By Freya, Year 6.

I really enjoyed the Royal Navy visit; it was really interesting, and I also learnt a lot. Firstly, we had to build a communication tower. It had to be 6 feet tall! Massive! We were all really helpful to each other whilst building it and my group were really good at communicating with each other. After we had built the 6-foot-tall tower, which was very tall, we took it down again, but only had two minutes to take it down and pack it away tidily, which was difficult. With our effective communication skills, it was a little bit easier. The useful skills that I learnt were teamwork, listening skills and communication skills. My group achieved to get the tower 6 feet tall, and we kept it strong, study and got it stand on its own! The Royal Navy taught me lots of useful skills and gave me a really enjoyable time!ย By Annabel. Year 6
