Regional Qualifier For English Schools Pistol Shooting

On Friday 4th November 2022, Ipswich High School welcomed 24 schools from within the Eastern Region to Round 1 of the British Shooting Schools Pistol Championships Regional Qualifier, in conjunction with British Shooting and supported by Felixstowe and Norwich Rifle Clubs.
In the Junior Section (Years 6-8), 30 children competed against each other, with the Top 8 going forward to a knockout final. We were delighted to have 16 IHS pupils taking part, and of those, Annabel (Year 6), Gabriel, Georgina, Toby, and William (all Year 8) were within the top 8.
The Final consists of shooting 10 pellets and the scores are calculated and announced. Every two shots thereafter, award the positions within the final. Annabel was placed 8th with 63 points. Gabriel 7th place with 86 points, William 6th place with 103 points, Georgina 4th with 147 points, and Toby an individual qualification place at 2nd with 176 points. Toby, Georgina, and William qualify for the National Finals as the top 3 individuals collectively as a team.
Three of the nine competitors in the intermediate competition were from Ipswich High School. All our pupils qualified for the knockout final, and a very close competition saw Matilda in 7th place, Annie was 6th, and Isabella 5th with 133 points. Our three intermediate students have qualified for the National Finals as a team.
And finally, the Senior section (Years 11-13). Issy C, Issy W, and Tilly shot incredibly well and went through to the final in 1st, 2nd and, 4th place. After a nail-biting final, Issy C came 1st with 187 points, Issy W came 2nd with 168 points and Tilly came 3rd with 154 points. All 3 students qualify for the National Final as Individuals and as a very competitive team.
Good luck to all those who will be shooting at the National Final, on 7th February 2022. Thank you to the parents who volunteered and helped the event run smoothly. Well done to all the pupils that took part and represented the school.
