This week students in Year 11 took part in an online piano lesson in an attempt to break the World Record for the most people having a piano lesson online at one time.

Year 11 at Ipswich High School Take Part in World Record Attempt with Jamie Cullem

The lesson was given by renowned musician Jamie Cullum, who taught everyone how to play the beautiful carol ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’.

After teaching everyone the melody Jamie explained how to change the accompaniment in order to give a different feel to the piece. This was particularly useful for the GCSE students, who have to compose two pieces as part of their coursework. The online lesson was put on, not only to break the World Record, but also to raise funds for the charity Age UK. People took part from all around the world, setting alarm clocks for an early morning call or a late-night session.

So, did we break the World Record? (Drumroll, please). We did! Well done to all of our students who were involved, what a fantastic achievement.
