Ipswich High School was the location for the biannual, St Elizabeth Hospice Quiz, the fundraising event aimed to raise funds towards the running costs of the Hospice which helps over 3,000 patients and their families each year.

The 260 invited guests were entertained by writer and television presenter, Griff Rhys Jones with a fun ‘Heads and Tails’ section. He was helped by songwriter and producer, Rick Wakeman and the BBC Antique Road Show’s, Lars Tharp.

The event was hosted by Quiz Master, James Wellesley Wesley. It was organised by a team of nine volunteers from the Hospice Quiz Committee, led by Hospice Trustee Mark Nicholls and Tizy Wellesley Wesley and they were thrilled to announce that over £23,000 was raised on the night.

Our School were proud supporters of the event and gave permission for the Hospice to use the school’s facilities for the evening. Some of our musicians took part, conducted by Director of Music, Angela Chillingworth.

Judi Newman, Development Director for St Elizabeth Hospice said, “The biannual St Elizabeth Hospice Quiz has become a much-loved feature of the Suffolk calendar and we were so grateful to Ipswich High School this year for allowing us to transform their sports hall for the evening. There was an amazing atmosphere of support at the event, which all of us at the Hospice deeply appreciate.”

St Elizabeth Hospice are based in Ipswich and their services cost £10.5 million per annum to run. Three quarters of the costs come from the local community by way of fundraising, the hospice charity shops and donations.

Acting School Head, Nicola Griffiths said, “The Hospice do such sterling work and I am sure we all know of someone who has received compassionate care and support from their skilled team of professionals.

“During 2019 we chose the Hospice as our ‘charity of the year’. In 2020 it was splendid to once again support them by providing our venue as the location for this prestigious event.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in raising such a huge sum to help continue the work of this wonderful and much needed charity.”
