The Year 7 A and Year 8 A and B netball teams traveled to Condover Hall in Shropshire on Friday for a full weekend of netball and activities.
The Year 7 team played a round robin tournament on Saturday. The games were short so the team had to go for goals straight away. Their first game was against Hereford Cathedral Three, which we won 3 – 1. The team went on to win all seven games on day one. This led IHS to the top of the table on the Saturday evening.
Initially the pupils played four matches on Sunday, the first starting at 8:45am. The first game was against Nottingham High, which they won comfortably 9 – 0, followed by a 5 – 1 win against St Margaret’s. The third netball match began against Crosskeys Netball Club, who finished second in the table on Saturday night, so we knew it was going to be a tough match. Unfortunately we narrowly lost 5 – 3. The final match commenced against Hereford Cathedral One and the team worked hard to secure a place in the semi-finals with an 8 – 2 win. We then waited anxiously to find out who we were playing.
The semi-final match was against Hereford Cathedral, which the team won 8 – 3. This then led us to the final against Crosskeys. The team knew it was going to be a tough match. The match initially ended in a 4 – 4 draw. Because they were fighting for first place another two minutes had to be played. After scoring, the team had about 40 seconds left to play and keep possession. The final whistle went and Ipswich were crowned Champions of Condover Hall 2018. Well done to everyone for their hard work and attitude all weekend. The team consisted of Evie (Captain), Matilda (Captain), Daisy, Millie, Amelia, Emily, Lara, Megan and Jasmine.
