A Level Further Mathematics
Exam Board: Edexcel
You must have opted for Mathematics, although you will be taught separately to the single maths group. You will study all of the A Level mathematics content, plus Further Pure Maths as well as optional extra Statistics and Mechanics. Decision Maths options are also available.
Exams and Assessment
You will take four 90 minute papers at the end of Year 13. Two in Pure Maths and two optional papers in either Pure, Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Maths.
Teachers and Teaching
You will have three teachers and up to 15 lessons of length 55 minutes per fortnight. You will receive regular homework based on the work studied in lessons. Teachers include: Mrs Finbow, Mr Rands and Mrs McGlynn and Mr Challener.
University Courses and Careers
A-Level Mathematics and A Level Further Maths are advantageous for students interested in studying maths, engineering or physics at university. It is also advantageous for students planning to study accountancy, business, computing, economics and psychology. Further Maths is a highly regarded course for potential applicants to Oxford and Cambridge. Career opportunities include: Accountancy, banking, finance and pensions, insurance and actuarial science, statistician, meteorology, logistics, IT and computing, teaching, engineering.
