After 18 months of planning, we embarked on a trip of a lifetime to South Africa. What an exciting and interesting country we had chosen to visit with lots of sporting and political history; throw in some of the most interesting wildlife in the world and we were sure for an amazing trip. After flying to Johannesburg and then onto Cape Town, the tour party had ten very busy and adventurous days involving netball and hockey fixtures with local schools as well as visits to many of the iconic sights. The party made the momentous trip up Table Mountain and sat above the clouds, played hockey with a township club after visiting their homes, we visited beaches covered in seals and penguins and watched whales whilst travelling along the Garden route towards Port Elizabeth. We visited an ostrich farm, took elephants for a walk and spent time on safari spotting two of the ‘big five’. The weather was typically Spring-like – sunshine and showers and always changing!

The team spirit and the camaraderie that developed between us all was such that I will never forget. South Africa had long been on my wish list to visit so for me so this is a fantastic chance to experience this country with work colleagues, friends and a group of talented and aspirational pupils.

And now onto planning our next trip…!
