Our Sixth Form community is truly unique in our region offering students the opportunity to choose across the widest possible range of A Level subjects and enrichment activities in a girls' only setting which enables strong academic performance and a sense of individuality. Our students, who come from all over Essex, Suffolk and south Norfolk can take three or four A Levels and are able to customise their timetable to suit their interests and abilities.
Our students learn in a small group setting where they receive individual attention and support. This structure closely mimics the tutorial group style of top universities, where many of our girls go on to study. This flexibility coupled with our approach to A Level teaching is unique amongst Sixth Forms in Essex and Suffolk.
Our A Level results are excellent and last year we achieved a 100% pass rate across our Year 13s. Nearly half of our Sixth Form girls achieved an A* or A grade in their exams and we saw A* grades awarded in a variety of subjects including Art, English Literature, Maths and Theatre Studies. These results put us among the best performing Sixth Forms in the Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk region.
Life at our Sixth Form
However, we also make it our mission to graduate girls who are well-rounded,
community minded and with the potential to be leaders in everything they do. Our extracurricular and social programmes (Enrichment) are as good, or better , than any other independent High School in Essex, Suffolk and lower Norfolk. Our large and well-developed campus allows us to run a full range of sporting and outdoor activities that are impossible for other schools in Essex & Suffolk to match. A full calendar of academic and social activities bring together the Sixth Form community and give our students the opportunity to develop leadership and mentoring skills. Underpinning all of this is a true sense of fun and enjoyment, demonstrable by the friendships our girls develop and the laughter they enjoy during these final two years at Ipswich High School.
University and careers guidance
The Ipswich High School university/careers preparation starts before Sixth Form with guidance and support being offered to our girls from Year 9. At Sixth Form, this guidance becomes more personalised and tailored to each girl's individual strengths, plans and interests. Our Sixth Formers receive offers at their first choice (often Russell Group) universities including Oxbridge, for challenging subjects such as History of Art, Law and Medicine. However, our careers advice offers more than this 'traditional' path. We provide guidance for any course at any university in the UK, Europe or beyond! We also support our students who choose not to go to university and are interested in beginning their careers after A Levels via an internship or similar. Our diverse alumnae network reflects the broad interests and true individuality of our Sixth Form through the years and features prize-winning authors, doctors, actors, lawyers, scientists and Olympians.
If you are considering the Ipswich High School Sixth Form, we encourage you to book a tour to see our outstanding facilities for yourself - we believe we have the best facility for Sixth Form students in the area. We have a beautifully refurbished 'Sixth Form Suite' at our 84 acre,
riverside campus that is modern and well-appointed. This setting, along with inspiring teaching staff and unmatched enrichment allows us to offer one of the best Sixth Forms in Essex, Suffolk, lower Norfolk.
Bursaries, Scholarships and Fees
As a member of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), we are committed to offering a
high quality education for girls at a very competitive cost. The GDST offers bursaries for those who may not be able to otherwise afford to pay full school fees and the school provides scholarships for high performing students who are interested in entering our Sixth Form. We are confident that you will not find an independent Sixth Form in Essex, or Suffolk which offers such support or better value. For more information, see our fees and scholarships page.
For state-school applicants, we offer the Elliston Award which will be worth up to 50% of school fees. Find out more about the Elliston Award. We will also consider applications from pupils currently receiving bursaries to attend other independent schools.
